Do not leave trash anywhere on the mall where someone else will have to pick it up. March for Life-January 24, 2011: The March will begin immediately after the rally and follow its customary route up Constitution Avenue to the Supreme Court building on Capitol Hill. If you are returning to the Hyatt Regency or Union Station upon completion of the March, please continue past the Supreme Court building, turn left on East Capitol Street and left again on 2nd Street. That will allow you to proceed to your destination without going against the flow of marchers who are still arriving at the Supreme Court. Please do not leave your signs, or trash of any kind, on the streets or anywhere along the route of the March. Take it with you to your destination and dispose of it properly.

for Orthodox Christians:

WASHINGTON, DC [OCA] — His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, will once again lead Orthodox Christian faithful at the annual March for Life here on Monday, January 24, 2011.

Joining Metropolitan Jonah will be His Grace, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania; His Grace, Bishop Michael of New York and New Jersey; His Grace, Bishop Melchisedek of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania; Archimandrite Matthias, Bishop-Elect of Chicago and the Midwest; students from Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA and Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, Crestwood, NY; and hundreds of Orthodox Christian clergy and faithful from through the region and beyond.

On the morning of the March, Metropolitan Jonah will preside at the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at the cathedral at 8:00 a.m. Thereafter, marchers are asked to gather by 12:30 p.m. under the “Orthodox Christians for Life” banner to the left of the stage at the Ellipse, between the Washington Monument and the national Mall. Metropolitan Jonah will be one of several speakers to address the public at the pre-March program. Archpriest John Kowalczyk, a pro-life activist involved in the March for Life for over 25 years, will deliver the final benediction at the formal program prior to the March.

At the conclusion of the March, Metropolitan Jonah and the hierarchs will offer prayers for the victims of abortion.

On Sunday, January 23, the eve of the March, the faithful are invited to join Metropolitan Jonah for Vespers at Saint Nicholas Cathedral, 3500 Massachusetts Ave. NW, at 6:00 p.m. A reception will follow.

Following the March, Metropolitan Jonah will attend the annual Rose Dinner at DC’s Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Additional details and general information on the March may be found at http://www.marchforlife.org.

“KIDS” Again Will Be Meeting at NRLC Before the March for Life

On January 24, an enormous mass of pro-lifers will flood the streets of Washington, D.C. to participate in the annual March for Life to commemorate the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Out of the thousands of schools, churches, and organizations that will be represented, “Keep Infants with Down Syndrome” (KIDS) may be the only group at the march representing unborn babies who are literally sought out to be aborted.

Prenatal testing is routinely used to target unborn babies who have Down syndrome for abortion. After learning about their unborn baby’s diagnosis, only a small percentage of mothers bring their baby to birth. According to the best estimates, an astounding 90% of these babies are aborted!

KIDS is comprised of families who have a child with Down syndrome. We will meet prior to the March for Life, from 11:00 a.m. to noon, at the offices of the National Right to Life Committee (512 10th Street, NW). NRLC will again provide sandwiches and refreshments for KIDS families and friends. We will then walk together to the March, which begins only a few blocks away.

This annual event gives families of children with Down syndrome a chance to gather and represent their children and all unborn babies with Down syndrome in the march. This year, it will be a privilege to be interviewed by the Catholic cable channel EWTN!

KIDS was founded by Leticia Velasquez and me, both mothers of daughters with Down syndrome. We thought there ought to be a group representing babies with Down syndrome at the March for Life. So in 2009, KIDS met for the first time at NRLC prior to the march. We had about 40 people, and even collected a few more along the route of the march.

Afterward, several families met with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers in her office at the Capitol. She represents the 5th District of the State of Washington and has a 4-year-old son with Down syndrome. Last year, we were honored to have Rep. McMorris Rodgers and her son, Cole, join us at our event.

By holding this event and walking together as a group, we hope to raise awareness about the tragic abortion rate, challenge the misinformation about Down syndrome that often leads mothers to abort their babies, and proclaim the joy our children bring to their families and communities.

So if you are a family member or friend of someone with Down syndrome, please walk with us in March for Life! If you plan on joining KIDS at NRLC, it would helpful to contact Eileen at vteileen@comcast.net or Leticia at marysjoys@yahoo.com to let us know.

If you need to contact us the day of the march, you may call Leticia at 860-336-1835.

The International Youth Walk For Life:

TEEN DEFENDERS PRESENTS:
THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH WALK FOR LIFE

For 38 years, the abortion holocaust has gone unchecked in America. Abortion has taken the lives of over 50 MILLION innocent children since one of the greatest charades in American political history, Roe v. Wade, in which abortion was made legal in 1973.

On January 24, 2011, we will stand together as young people from across the world and say, “NO MORE!” to the atrocities committed every single day.

We will rally together in Washington D.C. at the Washington Monument at 10:00am for music and fellowship, hear from some of the leading Pro-Life speakers in the world today, and then we will march to the National Mall at 11:00am to arrive just in time to join the National March For Life at 11:30am.

We hope you will join us at the very first International Youth Walk For Life.

As a very special gift to the first 1,000 people who arrive for the rally, we will give away these Teen Defenders bracelets to show your participation in this revolutionary event. Be sure to arrive early to claim yours!
